As an FFI Master Casting Instructor, I've been giving casting instruction, demos and presentations for twenty-five years. My casting mentors were Steve Rajeff and Chris Korich and my teaching mentors were Macauley Lord, Jim Valle, and Gordy Hill. I've written two casting books. In 2019 I won the FFI Jay Gammel Award recognizing individuals who have developed instructional materials that have advanced fly-casting instruction.

I've successfully taught students of all ages and skill levels, from beginner to advanced. I teach techniques for salt and freshwater angling. I emphasize a good foundation, good accuracy and the ability to produce high line-speed. Beyond the basics of overhead and Spey with one or two-hand outfits, I specialize in flats sight fishing and technical dry-fly fishing. I also use video to help students see what they're doing and can share the video with them online.

Flats Fishing Prep

This is a curriculum I've given in various lengths indoors and out, from one hour to eight workshops. I start with the basics of loop-control, line handling, carrying line, double hauling, accuracy, and move on to advanced distance casting techniques and handling wind. After a student can cast quickly and accurately, we concentrate on working as a team with a guide. Students can cast to a radio-controlled fish! Read about it in The Loop.
